  • In SI method the unit of energy is Joule (J). 
  • In CGS unit dyne-cm (equals to 10-7
  • In British Unit - foot pound force  (ft-lbf) 
Other units are
British Thermal Unit (BTU)  1 BTU - 1055 Joule .
Kilowatt hour (kWh) 1 kWh = 3.6 x 106  J = 3.6 MJ. 
Calorie . 1 Calorie - 4.186 Joules.
Therm . 1 Therm = 100,000 BTU 
Million Tons of Oil Equivalent (Mtoe) - equals to 4.186 x 104 TJ 
Quadrillion Btu or 1015 Btu. Also known as Quad.
